Our mission is to unite and empower individuals by using art and dialogue to bridge divides in communities facing complex social challenges. We believe in the power of personal narrative to foster understanding, reduce stigma, and create tangible, community-driven solutions.
ICAML & ICAYL transforms social divides through the power of shared creation. We guide individuals and groups from opposing sides of issues like substance use and health disparities through a collaborative creative process, breaking down stigma and building a foundation for mutual understanding and positive change.
Rickey Lewis founded the 501(c)(3) organization ICAML & ICAYL to realize a singular vision: harnessing the combined power of art and counseling. Drawing on his decades of hands-on experience in both disciplines, he developed the organization's evidence-based model, which uses creative expression as a tool for dialogue, empowerment, and community transformation.

It serves as a tangible blueprint for a safer future, demonstrating how purposeful acts of connection can bridge divides and build the mutual trust that creates stronger communities from the ground up.

The composition, described by him, depicts a moment of crisis and hope: he lies in an ICU bed following a suicide attempt, with a nurse at his side and rays of sun bringing color into the room. His narrative reveals the intersecting public health crises of suicide, substance use, and HIV risk, rooted in trauma and survival. This artwork transforms his lived experience into a vital tool for suicide prevention and health education, destigmatizing mental health and advocating for compassionate intervention."
